APULUM BALNEUM VR
A preventive archaeological research was conducted in 2022-2023 in Alba Iulia (Romania) in the civilian settlement of the Legio XIII Gemina at Apulum, which became municipium Septimium Apulense during the reign of Emperor Septimius Severus (193-211 AD). It was a unique opportunity to almost fully investigate a Roman house from Apulum. This large Roman residence had a private bathhouse, indicating the high social status of its owners. The balneum consisted of three rooms equipped with underfloor heating systems (hypocaustum). The virtual reconstruction of the Roman bathhouse utilized photogrammetric 3D documentation and detailed archaeological evidence, allowing us to envision how this facility might have appeared in ancient times.
