Prof Bánffy's lecture is entitled:
“From a rescue excavation towards an internationally award-winning archaeological project: Alsónyék in Southern Hungary, 5800 - 4400 BCE“

Professor Bánffy has been President of the European Association of Archaeologists since 2021. As well as working in the Institute of Archaeology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, she is a professor supervising Ph.D. students at two universities: ELTE Budapest and SZTE Szeged. In 2017 she was elected to the British Academy. In 2013 she became the director of the Romano-Germanic Commission of the German Archaeological Institute, Frankfurt

DMP Archaeology Hike: Shankill to Carrickgollogan

Join DMP Volunteer Rangers who will lead a hike on Saturday, the 15th of June: Shankill - Rathmichael - Carrickgollogan - Lead Mine's Chimney via the Dublin Mountains Way. To mark 'European Archaeology Days', Volunteer Ranger Paul will be sharing information on the archaeology of the area as he leads the group along the route.

The hike route surfaces include, footpaths, county road, gravel trails and forest floor. On a clear day the views along the route are breathtaking.

Date: Saturday, 15.06 at 10:30
Duration: 4.5 hours, approximately.
Distance: 11km approximately, 330m of climb.
Degree of difficulty: Moderate.
Bring: Walking boots, rain gear, warm layers, water, and lunch.
Meeting point: Shankill DART Station carpark at 10:15
Public Transport: DART, Dublin Bus.
No dogs.
