The National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences covers the complete study of the culture of tribes and peoples who have occupied present-day Bulgaria from the remote past until the 18th century. NAIM-BAS is a national center and coordinator of all field research in Bulgaria and exercises scholarly and methodological control over it. The Museum of Archaeology hosts the most numerous collections in Bulgaria and its exhibitions reveal it as one of the country's most important centers for promoting the cultural heritage of present-day Bulgaria. Its academic and museum potential makes NAIM-BAS the biggest research archaeological unit in southeast Europe.

Exhibition

3 D Virtual Tour on the Permanent Museum Exibition
*Prehistory Hall - located on the lower floor of the northern wing. It displays a collection of items dating between 1,600,000 BC and 1,600 BC. The collection is chronologically displayed and includes various findings from caves around Bulgaria, tools of the earliest humans who inhabited its modern territory, drawings, simple pottery, ritual items and many others.

It subdivides into an Early, Middle and Late Paleolithic collection, Neolithic collection, Chalcolithic collection, and Bronze Age.

* Treasury - located in the eastern wing and displays grave inventory and other treasures from the late Bronze Age to late Antiquity. Two of the most well-known Bulgarian treasures are located here: the Valchitran and Lukovit Treasures.

* Main Hall - located at the first floor of the main building. Hosts a collection of diverse items ranging from ancient Thrace, Greece and Rome to the late Middle Ages.

* Medieval Section - located on the second floor of the main building. Includes a gallery of medieval books, woodwork, drawings, metal objects, and other items characteristic of the era

3 D Exhibition The Panoply of the Thracian Warriors
The exhibition presents more than 120 artifacts, illustrating the variety, art, and craftsmanship in creating some of the most interesting objects of Thracian armament. Grave complexes with full sets of representative Thracian weaponry are also included. The exhibits provide important information on Thracian warfare, the burial rites of the Thracian elite, the mythological concepts and beliefs, the technological craftsmanship and aesthetics of the Thracians. Among the most spectacular finds are the composite scaled corslet, helmet, and sword from Zlatinitsa; the helmet from Ruets; the parade neck-guard from Mezek; the sword with a sheath, helmet and greaves from Golyama Kosmatka; the greave from Mogilanskata tumulus; and many others.

3D exhibition Bulgarian Archaeology 2023
For the seventeenth consecutive year, the National Archaeological Institute with Museum and 23 museums from the country organize the temporary exhibition “Bulgarian Archaeology”. The exhibition and the catalog present the most interesting and impressive discoveries and investigations from the last active archaeological season. A total of 30 sites are included, illustrating the development of cultures in present-day Bulgaria from the Neolithic (6000 years BC) until the Bulgarian Revival period (19th century). Among the artifacts on display are gold, silver, and bronze adornments, fine ceramic anthropomorphic figurines, pottery vessels, bone scepter and bronze flute, marble votive reliefs and bronze figurines, glass vessels, tools and weapons, coins, and many others.

3D Exhibition Trebenishte. 105 years after the discovery of the necropolis.
The exhibition presents more than 600 artefacts from the impressive archaic necropolis at Trebenishte, Republic of North Macedonia. It was organized jointly by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at BAS, the National Institute Archaeological Museum of the Republic of North Macedonia, the National Museum of Serbia and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments and Museum – Ohrid.

3 D Exhibition 130 Years National Archaeological Museum
The exhibition “130 Years of the National Archaeological Museum” was presented by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at BAS (NAIM-BAS). It is dedicated to the founding of the People’s Museum, now the National Archaeological Museum, which separated as an independent institution from the Bulgarian People’s Library in 1892. This is the oldest and the richest collection museum in Bulgaria. More than 150 of the most interesting exhibits, which entered the Museum’s collection as a department of the People’s Library until the first decades of the 20th century, are presented. The exhibits are listed in the Museum’s first inventory book. These are artefacts of different types and chronologies, from the Prehistory to the Late Middle Ages (15th – 17th centuries), testimony to the Bulgarian lands' rich cultural and historical heritage.
