W tym roku po raz pierwszy włączymy się w obchody Europejskich Dni Archeologii z wydarzeniem „Niesamowity świat wikingów”. Ich fascynujący świat, kulturę i dziedzictwo poznacie podczas wykładów, warsztatów i wykopalisk. Przedstawimy fakty, obalimy mity i wspólnie odkryjemy fascynujący świat wojowników z Północy oraz tajemnice archeologii.
This year, for the first time, we will join the celebration of the European Days of Archaeology with event "The amazing world of the Vikings". You will learn about their world, culture and heritage during lectures, workshops and excavations. We will present facts, dispel myths, and together we will discover the fascinating world of warriors from the North and the secrets of archaeology.

W zbiorach archeologicznych Muzeum Górnośląskiego w Bytomiu znajduje się kilka zabytków wczesnośredniowiecznych, pochodzących prawdopodobnie ze Skandynawii. Należą do nich topory i zdobione strzemię. Obiekty zostaną udostępnione uczestnikom specjalnie na to spotkanie.
The archaeological collections of the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom contain a few early medieval artifacts, probably originating from Scandinavia. These include axes and ornamented stirrup. The objects will be made available to participants especially for this meeting.

Od nitki do kłębka, czyli archeologia o wikingach /By the thread to the ball, or archaeology about the Vikings
Kim naprawdę byli wikingowie? Czy ślady ich obecności można odnaleźć na terenach dzisiejszych ziem polskich? Jakie są najsłynniejsze stanowiska archeologiczne wikingów? Czy w Muzeum Górnośląskim znajdują się artefakty o proweniencji północnej? To tylko niektóre z wielu pytań, na które słuchacze uzyskają odpowiedzi podczas prelekcji.
Who were the Vikings really? Can traces of their presence be found in the areas of today's Polish lands? What are the most famous Viking archaeological sites? Are there artifacts of northern provenance in the Upper Silesian Museum? These are some of the many questions that the audience will get answers to during the lecture.

"Boatbuilding" workshops /Warsztaty "szkutnicze"
Uczestnicy zapoznają się z typami wikińskich statków i znanymi stanowiskami archeologicznymi z reliktami statków, podstawowymi rodzajami węzłów żeglarskich oraz posługiwaniem się kompasem. Następnie samodzielnie wytną i skleją model drakkara oraz figurkę wikinga.
*Opłata: uczestnicy płacą łącznie 14 zł za warsztaty „szkutnicze” i wykopaliska
Participants will learn about the types of Viking ships and known sites with ship relics, basic types of sailing knots and the use of a compass. Then, they will cut and glue the drakkar model and the figure of the Viking on their own.
*Fee: participants pay a total of PLN 14 for "boatbuilding" workshops and training excavations

Podczas wykopalisk uczestnicy poznają metodologię badań archeologicznych. Będą eksplorować obiekty, zabezpieczać i dokumentować znaleziska. Spróbują też zinterpretować wyniki.

During the training excavations, participants will learn about the methodology of archaeological research. They will explore the objects, secure and document the finds. They will also try to interpret the findings.
