Bródno Stare Hillfort - Warsaw Archaeological Park

FreeSaturday 17 June, Sunday 18 June

The Bródno Stare hillfort was founded in the 2nd half of the 10th cent. as a place providing safety and shelter to the inhabitants of the nearby settlement. The refugial fort was founded on an oval plan (40 x 47 m.) and surrounded by a wooden and earthen rampart. The gate is located on the southern part of the complex. The fort burned down in the 1st half of the 11th cent.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the remains of the fort were identified by Roman Jakimowicz. The first excavations began in 1949. In 2008, the Warsaw Archaeological Park was opened in this place. The two-day event was prepared by the Faculty of Archaeology of the University of Warsaw, the State Archaeological Museum in Warsaw, the Targówek District Office of the capital city of Warsaw and the group DW Arkona.
